EUSTORY General Assembly 2009
19 to 22 March 2009, in Lviv / Ukraine
»Looking ahead in times of change«
Founding an international association (AISBL) was at the core of last years EUSTORY Annual General Assembly in Turin. This years´ Assembly was enthralling for the network as it was the first EUSTORY AISBL General Assembly. The conference took place in Lviv, in the Ukraine, from 19 to 22 March, hosted by the Ukrainian partner organisation Nova Doba. Under the topic »Looking ahead in times of change« the members discussed network concerns. At the same time the organisers talked about contextual matters such as the impact of the years 1945 and 1989 for the respective member countries. Furthermore Finland and Sweden applied for memberships at this years EUSTORY GA.
Lvóv, Lemberg and finally Lviv. „Looking ahead in times of change“ – for this topic the EUSTORY AISBL couldn’t have found a better place to assembly than Lviv. The changes of the last centuries are all visible in this town, which has a Polish, Austro-Hungarian and Ukrainian history and experienced of course German and Soviet occupation. Thus, the history of this city confronted the members of this years´ assembly with all turning-points of the last century. In this atmosphere and 20 years after the fall of the Berlin wall the participants of the EUSTORY GA discussed turning points of European history. Were 1945 and 1989 important for all European countries, or do other turning points exist?
During the discussion it came out, that it depends a lot on what perspective one emphasize most. If one looks for turning points in technical invention and progress, it is obvious, that one will come to other turning points than by stressing political changes. The conclusion was, nevertheless, that all European countries were affected by the changes of 1945/1989; some directly, others indirectly.
As the work within the new framework of an AISBL is still unusual for all members, evaluation has been an important part of the agenda. What kind of evaluation is important for future sponsors and how can evaluation help an organisation to improve content related work – these were only two of the discussed aspects.
Boarding completed – was the good news from Scandinavia. With Sweden and Finland as two new members of EUSTORY, the whole Scandinavia is part of the network now, which counts 22 member countries from now on.
