How is Ukraine mentioned in your history textbooks? What do you associate with Ukraine? What do you know about the current political situation in the country? These were only some of the questions the participants of the EUSTORY youth academy in Ukraine had to think about and answer before the finally met in the beautiful and historical city of Lviv. The knowledge of the participants about the host country of the youth academy differed widely. Whereas some of them already knew a lot, others stated that for them the trip to Ukraine opened a "new world in the East". But the fascinating pictures of the "Orange Revolution" were familiar to everyone in the group. Therefore, during the stay in Kiev in the second half of the seminar week, the discussions were very much focussed on the political changes in Ukraine and the huge challenges the country is facing almost one year after the democratic turnover. The colleagues from Nova Doba -EUSTORY´s partner organization in Ukraine - managed to introduce their country and its huge topical variety to the winners from nine national EUSTORY competitions in Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia. Some of their impressions you can find here.
