EUSTORY Academies in 2006
"Remembering Protest, Resistance and Civil
Disobedience in Europe"
An international Research Project on the Politics of Memory

In September 2006 thirty students from all over Europe will start to work on a new EUSTORY project: "Remembering Protest, Resistance and Civil Disobedience in Europe". This project was designed for former participants of EUSTORY Youth Academies in cooperation with the program European History Workshop of the Fund "Remembrance and Future" in Berlin. Between September 2006 and March 2007, the 17 to 27 year old students will work together on the topic "Remembering Protest, Resistance and Civil Disobedience in Europe". Their aim is to find out about how in their native countries certain protest movements are remembered - officially and unofficially. By doing local researches on protest, step by step the students will analyze traditionally accepted understandings of contemporary history and discuss them in a European context.
The project on protest and resistance will be split into three steps:
• a workshop in Berlin (15th-18th September 2006)
• an internet forum (1st October 2006 until 31st January 2007)
• a final workshop (24-28 March 2007).
In the end, this unique project will result in a broad and comparable set of local researches on protest in Europe, which may even give ideas for possible follow-up projects.
