Switzerland’s History Competition reached its highlight on 16 May in Zurich where the winners were disclosed. More young researchers than ever had joined the competition with a project to the subject «Borders». 70 participants with 47 projects took part in the competition, 13 of them won an award in the celebration ceremony in Zurich’s Kunsthaus.

The young researchers expanded their search to various fields of the given subject. They all proved engagement, precision and stamina during their work.  Lorenz Hilfiker for exemple unearthed a long forgotten affair that blackened the relationship between Switzerland and Italy in 1902. Sigolène Roch looked into the charged relationship of Germans and Swiss Germans. Other winning projects concerned themselves with the emigration of Swiss nationals to North America or Africa, the tentions in Switzerland’s geographic heart after the General Strike (1918) or the focus of Switzerland’s French speaking Medias regarding the construction of the Berlin Wall.

The ceremony was accompanied by the speeches of the author Walter Hauser («Der Justizmord an Anna Göldi»), the poet Leonardo Zanier («Den Wasserspiegel schneiden / Sot il pel da l'aga») and the young writer Blaise Hofmann («Notre Mer»).

This award ceremony concluded Switzerland’s third round of the History Competition. It will now start its new subject: «Worlds of Work». Young researchers of all parts of Switzerland are welcome to submit their work until January 2011.
